VIDEO OF THE DAY: Detektivbyrån on a Tram

Someone needs to give me one reason why not to move to Sweden and join a band like Detektivbyrån, because I'm so close to doing it! This band kind of sums up why I love Scandinavia. CLICK HERE to visit their website where you can listen to music and watch cute videos! If you'd like to view more Swedish bands on a tram, visit thetramsessions.se!

MOVIES WE LOVE: If....

One of my favorite Criterion Collection films is definitely if..... If is a 1968 film about a group of rebellious teens at a boarding school. It shows Malcolm Mcdowell in his true element. This was his first film and his breakout role. Above is the original cover, the criterion cover and a scene from the film.

MOVIES WE LOVE : The Graduate

This 1967 film has always been one of my favorites. It deserved all of the awards it won that year (Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Grammy) and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing. Being a huge Simon & Garfunkel fan, this movie is like the best of both worlds. Dustin Hoffman's character is one of my favorites of all time. This was the film that got Hoffman starting in film acting and thank God it did! Dustin has gone on to do some incredible things. If you haven't seen the Graduate, study the trailer and then go watch it. It's amazing!

MUSIC WE LOVE: Videos of Michel Gondry

FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS - CAROL BROWN

THE WHITE STRIPES - FELL IN LOVE WITH A GIRL

DAFT PUNK - AROUND THE WORLD

OUI OUI - LES CAILLOUX

Isn't it great when two of your favorite things combine? This past episode of Flight of the Conchords was directed by one of my favorite directors (and probably yours too) Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunhine, Science of Sleep, Be Kind Rewind). No, I don't only like him because he's french. I began liking him when I noticed that he'd directed a lot of my favorite music videos. Michel doesn't do too much music video directing anymore so it was especially great to see him direct this episode. The two music videos in this episode were great but the second, Carol Brown, was especially the style that made me fall in love with Michel Gondry. If you know Gondry's work, you'll see it in that video. Above are some of my favorite Gondry videos, the flight of the conchords one is at top! Enjoy!

WHAT WE DID LAST NIGHT: Valentine's Day

Last night Brad (boyfriend) and I, for Valentine's Day, went out to eat a lovely dinner of small plates. It was a tapas sort of situation. The food was absolutely delicious. I had crab cakes, fondue spinach artichoke dip, moroccan egg rolls, and creme brulee! After dinner I decided to run and grab myself a Valentine's Day present for both of us. We're both a huge fan of The Criterion Collection and I'd really been wanting to buy another Godard film. SO I bought Pierrot Le Fou. We drove home and watched it immediately. Such a beautiful and amazing film. I'm sure a lot of you know it and love it as well. But if you don't, I posted the beautiful Criterion cover and the trailer from the film. Enjoy!

FEATURED CUSTOMER: Katherine Elizabeth

KEBLOG

Katie Elizabeth
Photographer
Dallas/Los Angeles
Age, 19

I found Katie on Flickr through a 365 project group. Katie is definitely the best! She's been taking a breathtaking photo for each day of 365 days and they're coming out beautifully! Her photos have such an imagination to them. It's obvious that she gets her inspiration from music. CLICK HERE to view more of Katie's work!

Q: Hey Katie, how are you?

A: I’m good, thanks!

Q: You're such a great photographer, who is your favorite photographer?
A: My favorite photographer is Annie Leibovitz! I know most people say she is quirky, but wow, what incredible work she does with painting her portrait scenes with light.

Q: Where do you get most of your inspiration from?
A: I’m inspired mostly by my thoughts, feelings, or what I’m going through. Occasionally lyrics will help bring inspiration as well as books.

Q: If I were to go into your room, what would I see?
A: Well, since I’m living with my grandma, you’d see nothing that represents me at all! Just lots of pink floral bedspreads and wallpaper! Gah, talk about inspiration melt-down.

Q: Who are your favorite 3 musicians or bands?
A: The Format, Coldplay, Number One Gun

Q: Who is your style icon?
A: Kirsten Dunst. She’s so cute.

Q: What is one expression you say way too much?
A: I don’t really have an expression, but I add tag questions to my sentences a lot. Like “you know...” I try to make people see my side.

Q: What is the greatest movie ever made?
A: Pride and Prejudice.

Q: When did you first start taking photos?
A: When my family moved to Texas during my senior year of high school, I was hobby-less and mostly friend-less for the first couple weeks. My dad had been opening up moving boxes and showed me his Canon AE-1. So I borrowed it, snapped a roll of film, and the rest is history. Its been about 3 years now!

Q: What is your favorite part about editing your photos?
A: I love opening them, and finishing them. All the messy stuff in-between can sometimes be the worst and most frustrating part! The sigh of relief or accomplishment in the end is what I love most.

Q: Where is your favorite place to shop in your hometown?
A: Urban outfitters :)

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A: Have my BFA in Creative Photography in hand, ring on my left finger, drinking tea in my art gallery/studio, or being an active fashion photographer in magazine print work.

Compare and Contrast

Jerry Levitan's Academy Award (2008) nominated short film I Met the Walrus featuring his 1969 taped convo with John Lennon during his hair/bed peace campaign in Toronto.

Current Quicksilver/Microsoft commercial. Definitely a rip off of the short film. Everyone knows how much I loved I Met the Walrus, so this is sadly disappointing to me. Microsoft! You jerks!

MOVIES WE LOVE: Coraline

I just got home from seeing Coraline. I knew I would love this movie for it's beautiful colors, plot and design. I had no idea I would love it as much as I did! Coraline probably isn't for everyone, and I can see a lot of people not liking it. Luckily, I saw it in 3D (which is hard wearing 3D glasses over my already giant glasses) and that made it all the better. Coraline was so beautiful, I was grinning ear to ear the entire time. Fortunately I had a little girl sitting next to me who kept dancing during the movie. She loved it too! One of my favorite parts of this film was the soundtrack. It felt like a mysterious Joanna Newsom. My favorite song is above in the youtube video. I rushed home and bought this song immediately because I couldn't stop thinking about it. Such a beautiful song, and such a beautiful film!
