Thanks 2008!

Today I was reflecting on my 2008 and established it as the best year of my life thus far. I've never accomplished so much in ONE year as I did in 2008. So, here's a recap of my year from beginning to end. After tonight I'm sure I'll post a picture of my mitten themed new years party at the end. Here's what I've accomplished this year:

Went to Vegas for the first time and saw Beatles LOVE Cirque Du Soleil!

Went on a road trip from L.A. to Kansas City with my mom and saw a lot of amazing things.

Started a mastermind club at a tea shop.

Traveled to Chicago in the dead of the winter and loved every moment!

Opened my own business.

Road tripped to Oklahoma with a faraway friend and saw a large pop bottle.

Went to London and had fish n chips.

Went to Denmark and ate a Danish danish.

Went to Germany and rode on the Autobahn.

Went to Estonia and almost puked.

Went to Russia and saw a lot of Euro Mullets.

Went to Finland and enjoyed Socialism.

Went to Sweden and record shopped.

Went back to Chicago and saw old/new friends.

Died my hair back to blonde and got Beatles tattoos.

Sister got engaged.

Had my first Diner experience in New Jersey.

Celebrated birthdays in New York.

moved.

Thanks 2008. You were a great year. I just hope 2009 can be just as great.

DIY - Christmas Foods!

This year I've decided to make some tasty goodies for Christmas. Usually I just eat off of what my other family members make. This year I just really wanted to contribute something delicious to the Holiday menu. Here's what I've decided to make:

photo: Fine Tuning
recipe: Pepparkakor

1. Pepparkakor. A Swedish Christmas cookie. A lot like Gingerbread with an orange/clove kick.

photo: bitter sweet
recipe: Festive Mint Fudge

2. Festive Mint Fudge. Everyone likes fudge, and I really like peppermint. Peppermint is my favorite holiday flavor. Yum!

recipe: Cranberry Corn Bread

3. Cranberry Corn Bread. Two of my favorite things in one. Thinking about it makes me salivate!

Latest Obsession - Gifts from bf

1. Campfire Candle - Fred Flare
2. Coming and Going Coat Rack - UO
3. Wood Grain Log Pillow - I Heart Norwegian Wood
4. Suede Fringe Crossover Bag - UO

Yesterday my boyfriend (our male model) Brad and I celebrated Christmas together. He's never around during Christmas because he goes out and visits family, so we usually have to have a separate night devoted to the holiday together. This year was exceptionally great because I got the best presents ever. The Suede Fringe Crossover Bag was actually from Brad's family. Hooray for early Christmas presents.

Favorite Frames!

1. Colossus 2. Ronsir 3. A187 4. S195 5. Slither 6. Schoolboy

I've been looking around for a new pair of glasses. I can't decide which I want! There are so many frame styles out there and I just can't pick one out. It's hard to find one's that are "me". I'd prefer black, and large of course. But oh wow, I just can't pick one! Above are my favorites.

Latest Obsession - Lost

I made what I think was a HUGE mistake last week. I noticed that they had every single episode of Lost available free online. This is a show I've always wanted to start watching. I know a lot of people that are obsessed with it. I just knew it would take a long time to watch 4 seasons all the way through before it premiers next month. Well, I started last week. I'm almost done with season one, but it's consumed nearly 20 hours of my life already. Should I continue, or was this a bad idea? Hellllppp!

Notes

Thought.

Does anyone else feel like there's a lot of worrying going on? It seems to me like everyone is a little tense lately. You know what? Slow down and take a moment. Everything is going to be okay. This print is a perfect example.

DAY WITHOUT A GAY: 12/10/08

1918 Vintage will be closed on 10/12/08 to observe Day Without A Gay! A nationwide peaceful protest of Prop 8. If you'd like to help out with this event, Join the Impact has written a lovely set of tips!

TEN TIPS ABOUT WHAT TO DO ON DECEMBER 10:
  1. Wake up for work on Wednesday December 10th... and call in GAY.
  2. Go to the bank and take $80 out of your account... put it in your pocket and KEEP IT THERE.
  3. Do not go get your morning latte
  4. Do not purchase anything
  5. Do not contribute to advertising revenue: Meaning, spend 24 hours of your life without TV & Internet
  6. Do not use your cell phone, even if you have unlimited minutes
  7. Instead, DO volunteer. Give to the community and reach out to those that don't understand our community. Check your state page for local volunteer opportunities.
  8. If you must spend, only do so at an LGBTQ owned establishment with an LGBTQ clientel
  9. You have weeks to prepare, so go grocery shopping now.
  10. VOLUNTEER. We are fighting for human rights, so let's take a day to fight for the rights of those in need. Check your state page for local volunteer opportunities.

SEE IT!

Slumdog Millionaire, from director Danny Boyle (28 days later, trainspotting) is absolutely brilliant. Not many of you, but a few of you might recognize lead actor Dev Patel from our favorite BBC show right now, Skins. For those of you unfamiliar with this film. It has a touch of City of God with a modern setting. I don't want to give too much away, but it's about a poor kid in the slums of India who gets on India's Who Wants to be a Millionaire and wins big. It's not a courageous family story, although it might sound like it. Go out and see it, it's fantastic!

FLICKR PHOTO OF THE DAY

I can't express just how jealous I am of photographer Missy, the face behind Boopsie Daisy. Her collection of cameras is just amazing. And I see that she has the same John Lennon figurine as me! Missy's John has his glasses on still. My John lost those within a week!

PEOPLE WE LOVE: JENNY KRISTINA

Alright, I'm partially featuring this photographer just because she is from Sweden. But she's a brilliant photographer as well as being amazing in the geographic region of her life. Jenny Kristina is definitely a gifted lady. She puts me to shame in making each photograph look fresh and unique. She posesses a certain quality that is definitely her own. I suggest you definitely look at her work. 1918 loves you Jenny! CLICK HERE to visit Jenny's site.

Live in Dallas?

Oh, what I would give to be a Dallasinite, Dallasian or just a person who lives in Dallas right now. My favorite band, The Polyphonic Spree, is giving their annual Holiday show in a few weeks. This marks the time of the year when I have an unnatural amount of cheer due to the holidays masked by my sorrowful longingness to attend this show. I grew up in Ft. Worth, why couldn't have I just stayed? However, I do like my 4 wonderful seasons that I get out here in Kansas City, I need winter and fall. Texas just wouldn't provide me with that. Anyway, readers out there...if you live in and around the Dallas area, please attend this show. If not for you, attend it for me and tell me it was horrible (just to make me feel better). As for me...i'll just have to wait another year and pretend I'm at the show in my bedroom wearing my Polyphonic Spree robe.

Latest Obsession - Heima

Heima, a film by one of my favorite bands Sigur Ros is the reason for this lovely post. Heima was playing at the AFI fest last year, but I couldn't get tickets in time. I forgot about this film, until last week when I saw it playing on the Sundance Channel. If you don't know much about Sigur Ros, that's okay. Although Heima is mostly Sigur Ros' live performances, it seems like so much more than just that. Heima is a captivating look into a beautful country, Iceland, and its beautiful people. I knew I loved Iceland before this film thanks to Anythony Bourdain and Sam Brown, but I'd never seem Iceland in such a way as I saw it in Heima. The film takes you through a sting of free performances Sigur Ros gave through the beautiful countryside of Iceland. You get to look into the lives and hearts of the Icelandic people and see the natural beauty of the landscapes. Ah, what I would give to be there right now. As the members of Sigur Ros explain, Iceland is a country seemingly untouched by modern mankind. If you're at all interested in Iceland, Sigur Ros or just beautiful things...I highly recommend you find this movie and buy it.
