Compare and Contrast
Jerry Levitan's Academy Award (2008) nominated short film I Met the Walrus featuring his 1969 taped convo with John Lennon during his hair/bed peace campaign in Toronto.
Current Quicksilver/Microsoft commercial. Definitely a rip off of the short film. Everyone knows how much I loved I Met the Walrus, so this is sadly disappointing to me. Microsoft! You jerks!

MOVIES WE LOVE: Coraline

I just got home from seeing Coraline. I knew I would love this movie for it's beautiful colors, plot and design. I had no idea I would love it as much as I did! Coraline probably isn't for everyone, and I can see a lot of people not liking it. Luckily, I saw it in 3D (which is hard wearing 3D glasses over my already giant glasses) and that made it all the better. Coraline was so beautiful, I was grinning ear to ear the entire time. Fortunately I had a little girl sitting next to me who kept dancing during the movie. She loved it too! One of my favorite parts of this film was the soundtrack. It felt like a mysterious Joanna Newsom. My favorite song is above in the youtube video. I rushed home and bought this song immediately because I couldn't stop thinking about it. Such a beautiful song, and such a beautiful film!
MUSIC WE LOVE: Dan Deacon

WE LOVE DAN DEACON! Not just because he loves color and has big glasses (although that's a huge part) but his music is amazing. He shows real talent in solo electronica. One of my major goals is to see this guy live. Looking at the pictures, his shows look like the best time ever! Luckily, he's on tour NOW and we'll be able to see him May 1! CLICK HERE to view his myspace, listen to music, watch videos and see the tour dates!
PEOPLE WE LOVE: Serge, Jane and Charlotte
My absolute favorite late 60s, early 70s power couple! Serge and Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin had a 13 year relationship of pure beauty and a lot of time in the public spotlight. They made the most beautiful music together, like their most famous song "Je t'aime... moi non plus" as shown in the above video. Plus, they spawned one of the most beautiful women musician/actress of our time. Charlotte Gainsbourg!
Charlotte is definitely one of my favorite musicians and actresses right now. Not sure what you've seen her in? She was a predominate character in I'm Not There and The Science of Sleep as well as many French films. Above is one of her music videos. Enjoy her beauty.

PLACES WE LOVE: Zanzabelle, Silverlake, Los Angeles
When I lived in L.A. I loved going to Zanzabelle. It was one of those special occasion places for me. I would only allow myself to go there every few months as a reward for my hard work and good behavior. Zanzabelle is a little tiny cottage of a shop. They're a seller of oddities, ice cream and fun bottled beverages. It's the perfect place for a fun gift for a friend, or for yourself. I miss Zanzabelle so much. I can't wait to go back and visit some day!
For those of you that live in L.A.
Zanzabelle is on Rowena in between Glendale and Hyperion

PLACES WE LOVE: Hotel Fox, Copenhagen

photos from Hannes

When I visited Copenhagen last summer, all I wanted to do was stay at Hotel Fox. This was not possible because I was on a cruise. Someday I will go back to Copenhagen and stay at Hotel Fox for a whole week! The amazing concept behind Hotel Fox is that each of its 61 rooms is designed by 21 different artists from around the world. The rooms come in four sizes extra large, large, medium and small. Each room has its own theme unique to the designer. The lobby is beautiful, the food is beautiful. This place is such a gem! You can even choose which room you stay in, if you book way in advance of course. Hotel Fox is located in central Copenhagen which is even better, it's close to everything.
