Thanks to my good friends at Swedeplease I get all of the up to date info on the Swedish music scene. A few days ago they blogged about a great Swedish indie pop orchestra, Symfoniorkestern. Unfortunately, you can't buy this amazing band on iTunes, but you can listen to all of their EP on myspace! Symfoniorkestern exemplifies my favorite type of music, orchestral and happy! They've just released a beautiful handmade video go with their new song Reprise. Take a look above!

MOVIES WE LOVE: Fur

Our friend Ashley just reminded me of this film when she bought Diane Arbus' coffee table book. Fur is one of the most unusual and beautiful films I have ever seen. The entire film represents the imagination of photographer Diane Arbus. It's the kind of movie that you will either love or hate. It's a hard film for a lot of people to enjoy because of its strange plot and interesting characters. It's those things that I absolutely love about this film. It shows the beauty in people in a way that has never been done. Go out and netflix it or buy it. It's worth your time.

WHAT TO WEAR: Manish Arora

Manish Arora's spring/summer 2009 collection is inspirational. Looking at it again today has just brightened my day completely. The Indian designer brings in his usual bright color palette with a brilliant circus motif. The first and last photos are my absolute favorite. Take a look at that first dress, I would give anything to see that in person.

PEOPLE WE LOVE: Victoria Bergsman

Victoria Bergsman, former front woman of Swedish Indie Pop group The Concretes is definitely an icon. Victoria lead The Concretes in some of my favorite albums and also sung on everyone's favorite PB&J track, Young Folks. Victoria has moved on from The Concretes to start her own project, Taken By Trees. I absolutely love the music of Taken by Trees but I definitely miss the days of The Concretes with Victoria. Now the band's drummer Lisa Milberg (who is also amazing) sings lead vocals. All in itself it's pretty impressive to have a drummer/lead vocalist. A brand new double EP from my favorite superhero Zach Condon. It has the same upbeats of beautiful polish inspired horns with a bit of digitization. Zach, oh Zach. You've done it again!


ANDREW BIRD
NOBLE BEAST
Our favorite whistler and Chicago native Andrew Bird does it again! This album has the usual violin plucking and beautiful whistling that we all hoped for! I had the chance to see Andrew live a couple years ago at Amoeba in Los Angeles and it was such a treat. Seeing him live really puts into perspective just how talented he really is. He's on tour now, go see him!

MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION
Amazingly great album with the trippiest cover of all time! Don't stare at it too long. I fell in love with Animal Collective with the song Water Curses and can't express how great this new album is. Eek, buy it now!

Woody on my Mind

Since I've randomly had 3 dreams in the past 2 weeks featuring Woody Allen, I thought I'd do him some respect by blogging about the man. He's definitely my favorite comedian, comedic actor, and tied for my favorite director (amongst kubric and anderson). I can't quite express just how much I love Woody.
